The sharing screen allows you to share match results to Twitter, Facebook or eMail.

swipe2 device-2013-04-02-111643You can swipe across the screen to change the match to be shared. The matches change in chronological order if you do this.

You can add a referee, marker, event name, location, division, round and court and these will appear in the body of the email. They are optional but will be transferred to the paid Squash Scorer Plus app if you upgrade. In the Squash Scorer Plus app they form part of the WSF score sheet attachment.

The Twitter and Facebook options post short messages to Twitter or Facebook and you will be asked to confirm before posting. You are shown the message to be posted.

The eMail sharing option asks you to choose your favorite eMail client and creates an eMail message with the results of the match in the subject line, match details above in the body of the email and the “send to” recipient added from the field on the Preferences screen.

The premium Squash Scorer Plus application also creates a complete WSF scoresheet which is attached to the eMail. Please consider upgrading to the Squash Scorer Plus app to gain this and other functionality!

Squash Scorer Plus – Exporting and Importing

Squash Scorer Plus allows you to export your matches to a file which is automatically attached to an email. You can send this to a friend or even back to yourself. The squash scorer import will not overwrite any matches you have scored, it will ignore matches that are identical to existing matches and only add different matches. If a match has had its associated details changed, for example the “Marker” is changed then that counts as a new match to be imported.

The idea is that this file can then be used to load those matches back into the Squash Scorer Plus app if you upgrade your device or load the matches into another device if, say, you want them in both your tablet and phone or even simply send them to a friend.

Exporting is straight forward, navigate to the preferences screen and select Export Database and the matches will be sent into a file on the SD card. Dont worry if you dont have an SD card, Android pretends you do.

device-2013-04-02-111756The file created is /mnt/sdcard/squashscorerexport.xml

When the export has completed you will be asked to select your email client and the file will automatically be attached.

In order to import you should detach the attachment and save it to the /sdcard folder on the device.

Often this is /mnt/sdcard

You must keep the same name which is squashscorerexport.xml

When you select Import, the app will look in the sdcard folder for a file named squashscorerexport.xml and if found will ask whether you want to open it and then will read it into the database. The file is dated to help you identify its contents.

device-2013-04-02-111835Once Import has been selected, the app will load the matches into its database

device-2013-04-02-111847The file contains all the information from the Squash Scorer Plus database and that includes the players.

Some email clients dont allow attachments to be saved to the SD card. You may need to choose a different mail client or possibly install an app that will enable saving the attachement.

Squash Scorer Plus Initial Install

If you have the Free app still installed when you purchase and install the premium Squash Scorer Plus app, then you will have the option of transferring the matches from the free app to the paid app.

Android applications are shielded from each other and hence its not possible to load the matches from the old app into the new app directly. They must be exported from the old and imported into the new. To achieve this, the Squash Scorer Plus app will request the free app do an export of its matches. This export file is saved in /sdcard

And then the Squash Scorer Plus app will import those matches.

This is the same process that is used when you export from the Squash Scorer Plus app into an email as an attachement and then detach that attachment into the /sdcard folder of the target device and do an import.

If you say no to the transfer of matches when you first install Squash Scorer Plus, then you can re-initiate the transfer by uninstalling the Squash Scorer Plus app and then reinstalling it. You dont have to pay for it again, Google Play knows you own it. It would be wise to make this decision soon before you score matches with Squash Scorer Plus otherwise you should export any matches you’d scored, uninstall and reinstall to import the matches from the free app and then use the export to import the matches you’d scored and wanted to keep with the Squash Scorer Plus app.

More information on exporting and importing can be found in the Squash Scorer Plus Export/Import article.
